Starring Alfaaz and Roopi Gill in the lead, Vadda Kalakaar is a story based on the 90s era in Punjab when VCRs were in high demand. Punjabi cinema has gone experimental in the last few years. From making films on national heroes to showcasing entertaining period dramas, the industry is making forays into new subjects very often nowadays. One such movie with a very unique idea which is different from the main stream movies is brought to you by Red Castle Motion pictures and Parul Katyal Films whose producers are Prince Amrit Juneja, Satish Katyal and Rajan.
The movie is called ‘Vadda Kalakaar’ and makes the acting comeback of famous singer Alfaaz and the debut of Roopi Gill who shot to fame with a music video – Diamond.
Speaking to the press, the director of this movie Kuldeep Kaushik, who has worked with Anurag Basu as well, told that Vadda Kalakaar will be focusing on the 90s culture, the time when the use of VCRs was at its peak. “The main character (Alfaaz) gets inspired by the film industry and he wishes to become a hero, but he has to face many frauds and undergo several struggles to achieve his goal. His struggle is filled with innumerable interesting incidents that will surely leave the audience laughing.”
Alfaaz, who was last seen in Ishq Brandy, quipped, “I loved the story of Vadda Kalakaar so much that I immediately expressed my desire to work as an actor in the film to the producers. I am so happy that I got to do this role. From the pre-production stage to the actual shoot, post-production and then working on the music, I enjoyed every phase of working on this film.”
Says one of the producers Satish Katyal, “Vadda Kalakaar will provide a feel of the old Punjabi culture of love, brotherhood and friendship. This film is a blend of Romance, comedy and family relations and will appeal to the audience of every age group.”
The other producers Prince Amrit Juneja and Rajan added,” Vadda Kalaakar is a highly entertaining film due to its sheer unique storyline. When this film’s script was narrated to me, it impressed us so much that we immediately decided to produce it with all gusto. Kuldeep Kaushik, the Director, said “The film is not your usual slapstick comedy. In fact, it’s a story-driven film in which there’s no hero or heroine. It’s a film that every member of the family who’ve seen those days of watching movies on VCR can relate to! It’s nostalgic, makes you emotional at certain points, has an amazing SUSPENSE element serving 100% entertainment.”
Besides Alfaaz and Rupi Gill, Vadda Kalakaar features many popular faces from the industry like Yograj Singh, BN Sharma and many more. Shares Yograj Singh, “Punjabi Cinema has reached great heights and depending upon the demands of the audience the industry has brought many changes and this movie will also bring something new for the audience.”
The music of the film have been prepared by Gurmeet Singh. The lyrics have been penned down by Alfaz, Shyam Balkar and Binder Nathumajra. The songs have been sung by Alfaz, Prabh Gill, Ranjit Bawa, Kamal Khan and Afsana Khan.
