The recent outbreak of Corona virus (Covid-19) in India has affected the economy of the country on mass level. Various businesses are facing massive loss due to the no control over the virus. Among these, one major affected business which used to generate huge revenue to the country is entertainment business. The film and entertainment industry
facing a huge loss due to Corona virus in India.

In a recent interview, Munish Sahni (owner Omjee Star Studios) discussed in detail about the average losses which films will face. He mentioned his own project titled Chal Mera Putt 2 which was expected to break several records on box offices worldwide. But unfortunately, the film was interrupted after the major shutdown of theatres announced by Punjab government just after one day of its release. Well, not only this several other projects apart from his banner too got affected during this crisis. There have been 20 to 30 projects which are all set to get released but failed to reach the screens due to virus.

In a conversation he mentioned that apart from the producers and artists, the virus had a huge impact on daily wagers whose daily bread depended on the shooting schedule of the films. He also assured that the producers and artists are contributing a lot for them by providing them essentials for their family. Undoubtedly the impact of virus has poked the smoothness of film releasing schedules. The shooting of two major films like Maa being made under Humble Motion Pictures and Main Viyah Nahi Karauna Tere Naal made under Gurnam Bhullar’s home production are affected which was supposed to generate huge
revenue, he added. When being asked about the crux of the discussion which was, if the
audience will reach theatres after the major crisis or not?

The audience shares a strong bond with the Punjabi film industry. Most of our films are related to the story of a common Punjabi family. They will definitely go to the theatres if to get some peace after a major chaos. Definitely they should not get disappointed initially which is a major concern. Therefore, to conclude Munish Sahni said, “I urge all the film makers to unite together during this period so that they can release their films accordingly avoiding some unhealthy competitions which can lead to their loss at box office.”
