The Rajasthan government has unveiled the Rajasthan Film Tourism Promotion Policy 2025 with the aim of turning the state into a global filmmaking hub. Chief Minister Bhajanlal Sharma announced the new policy, describing it as a major step to promote film tourism, attract national and international filmmakers, and create employment opportunities for youth.
Under the new policy, films and web series shot in Rajasthan will be eligible for subsidies of up to 30 percent of the total production cost, subject to a maximum limit of ₹3 crore. In addition, productions that win international awards will receive a cash incentive of ₹1 crore, and Rajasthani students will be provided scholarships to study at film institutes.
Rajasthan Targets Global Film Hub Status
Addressing the launch of the policy in Jaipur, Chief Minister Bhajanlal Sharma said Rajasthan’s rich cultural heritage, vast desert landscapes, historic forts, palaces, and diverse natural locations are world-class and ideal for filmmaking. He said the new film tourism policy would position Rajasthan as a preferred destination for national and international film shoots while opening new avenues of employment for local youth.
The policy includes provisions for subsidies, incentives, and ease of doing business, making it more attractive for filmmakers compared to similar policies in other states.
Subsidy Linked to Screen Time of Rajasthan Locations
The subsidy structure under the policy is linked to how prominently Rajasthan is showcased on screen:
- 10% subsidy if Rajasthan locations appear for 5–15% of the total screen time
- 20% subsidy if locations appear for 16–30% of the screen time
- 30% subsidy if Rajasthan locations are featured for more than 30% of the screen time
If a film, web series, TV serial, or documentary is 100% shot in Rajasthan, an additional 5% subsidy will be provided within the maximum subsidy limit.
Up to 30% Subsidy on Total Production Cost
Deputy Chief Minister Diya Kumari stated that along with financial incentives, administrative processes related to film production have been simplified to encourage filmmakers. The policy provides subsidies of up to 30% of the total expenditure incurred on shooting in Rajasthan, with the following maximum limits:
- Feature films: up to ₹3 crore
- Web series: up to ₹2 crore
- TV serials: up to ₹1.5 crore
- Documentaries: up to ₹2 crore
To qualify for the subsidy, producers must meet minimum spending requirements within the state. Feature films must incur at least ₹2 crore in Rajasthan, while web series, TV serials, and Rajasthani-language films must spend a minimum of ₹1 crore.
The Rajasthan Film Tourism Promotion Policy 2025 is being seen as a significant move to boost film tourism, strengthen the local economy, and establish Rajasthan as one of India’s leading film production destinations.
