Despite having a composed manner, skipper Rohit Sharma was unable to control his feelings. He fell to the ground as the last ball was bowled, slamming his hand several times into the turf. The whole country of India rejoiced at home. The cricket players received praise from Prime Minister Narendra Modi, who acknowledged that they had captured the hearts of millions. In the end, the Men in Blue turned around a poor first half and finished with a score of 176-7. Despite their best efforts, South Africa was only able to score 169–8. Arshdeep Singh, Jasprit Bumrah, and Hardik Pandya came together to seal the win, setting off celebrations that echoed throughout the cricket-loving country.
Seventeen years following their 2007 victory in the inaugural T20 World Cup, India once again claimed the top spot. Recollections of MS Dhoni’s captaincy, Yuvraj Singh’s six-sixes, and the electrifying atmosphere returned. This victory was a promise for the future as well as a nod to the past. It wasn’t just about the here and now. The cry “Bharat Mata ki Jai” reverberated throughout the Caribbean and the Himalayas.
The Indian cricket team’s feelings were the same as those of millions of supporters when they raised the trophy. The triumphant picture was painted by feelings of pride, relief, and pure joy. India basked in the glory of the T20 World Cup’s return, relishing every feeling that accompanied it.
The Punjabi cinema industry is basking in the glory of a proud moment as veteran actress Nirmal Rishi has been conferred with the prestigious Padma Shri award. This honor is a fitting tribute to her immense contribution to Punjabi cinema and her enduring ability to captivate audiences with her powerful portrayals.
Nirmal Rishi, a name synonymous with grace and versatility, has had a career spanning six decades. She has worked in around 100 films, and her rich tapestry of roles has left an indelible mark on the industry.
The Padma Shri award was presented to Nirmal Rishi by President Droupadi Murmu at a ceremonial function held at the Rashtrapati Bhavan in the national capital. On receiving the award, Rishi expressed her happiness and revealed her initial reaction when she learned about her Padma Shri award. “When I received the first call, I was nervous…I am pleased that I received it…I have done a lot of theatres,” Nirmal Rishi said.
Nirmal Rishi rose to prominence with her portrayal of Gulabo Maasi in the film ‘Long Da Lishkara’. Her notable appearances in Punjabi films like ‘Nikka Zaildar’, and ‘Nikka Zaildar 2’ have further cemented her legacy²³.
The Padma Shri award to Nirmal Rishi is not just a recognition of her talent but also a testament to the growing stature of Punjabi cinema. It is indeed a proud moment for the entire industry. Here’s to many more such recognitions in the future!
