Diljit Dosanjh’s film ‘Ghallughara’ was 21 cuts by CBFC

Punjabi singer and actor Diljit Dosanjh is currently in the headlines for his upcoming film ‘Ghallughara’. They are preparing for the release of this film. The film is based on the life of Jaswant Singh Khalra, a prominent Sikh human rights activist during the turbulent period of the Punjab insurgency in the 1990s. According to the news, the Diljit Dosanjh starrer has received an A certificate from the Central Board of Film Certification but also has 21 cuts.

According to the news, the Central Board of Film Certification (CBFC) has recommended a total of 21 cuts in the film. C. B. F. C. Accordingly, the film contains inflammatory and communal speeches and scenes, which have the potential to radicalize Sikh youth and encourage violence. In addition, C. B. F. C. Concerned about how the film could affect the country’s foreign policy and sovereignty. They have also mandated the deletion of certain sentences and the title of the film as part of their decision.

Reports suggest that RSVP Films, the production company led by Ronnie Screwvala, has filed an appeal under section 5C of the Cinematograph Act with the Bombay High Court. The appeal opposes the proposed amendments to the film, arguing that doing so violates Article 19(1)(a) of the Indian Constitution, which upholds freedom of speech and expression. The next hearing of the case is scheduled for July 14, 2023.

It is to be noted that Diljit Dosanjh’s film ‘Chamkila’ is also in the pipeline. Parineeti Chopra is also in the lead role in this film. The film is based on the life of Punjabi singer and composer Amar Singh Chamkila.
