An 81 feet high Khanda, made of stainless steel, was installed at Panj Piara Park in Anandpur Sahib on Saturday.

The Khanda was installed in the presence of Takht Sri Kesgarh Sahib jathedar Giani Mal Singh and Punjab education minister  Daljit Singh Cheema.

A platform of 39 feet constructed to install the 42 feet high and 18 feet wide Kanda, weighing 3 tonne, has taken its height to 81 feet from the surface of the earth.

The Khanda, prepared by Moga-based Satnam Fabrication under the supervision of Sant Karnail Singh Tallewal (Barnala), would be dedicated by the chief minister Parkash Singh Badal to the entire Sangat on June 17, the 350th Foundation day celebrations of Anandpur Sahib.

The religious symbol has been prepared in accordance with the aero-dynamic design at a cost of Rs 22 Lakh and took three months to build. The aero-dynamic design would ensure that the Khanda withstands the air pressure.

The religious symbol has been installed on a 39-feet high foundation, which has been given the look of Ramgarhia Bungas of the Golden Temple. Marble would be installed on it by 22 artisans of Agra and Dholpur in 3 months on the pattern of Virasat- e-Khalsa, which would incur an expenditure of about Rs 20 lakh.

Shiromani Gurdwara Parbandhak Committee (SGPC) member Amarjit Singh Chawla, Takht Sri Kesgarh Sahib manager Sukhwinder Singh Grewal, sub-divisional magistrate Amarjit Bains were also present on the occasion.
