Why is Punjabi Cinema served with the old gourmet when there is enough breath taking, young and fresh talent roaring to go especially whereas female protagonist are concerned?
It’s a rule of the trade that with the entry of fresh crop the older ones have to take a back seat or at least do work that compliments their age and experience.
Even in the most popular Hindi film industry the young girls like Alia Bhatt,Shraddha Kapoor and Jacqueline Fernandez are the ones who have producers and directors lined up outside their offices to sign them up.
Unfortunately,in our Punjabi industry that’s not the case.We every year are introduced with many new faces but either they are absolutely raw or worn out actresses from Hindi film industry who do not have any offers coming their way and happily agree to be part of cinema which they do not understand, firstly language being major barrier and secondly no audience connect as they come from entirely different background.
We are constantly being introduced to faces which just have instant re call value such as Khan girls :Zarine and Gauhar not realising that neither have a connect with our punjabi audience nor with pan India audience as they have been slammed for their respective films in the past.
Not taking away from top notch heroines of punjabi cinema like Neeru Bajwa,Surveen Chawla and if we may say so Mandy Thakar who do have this amazing connect with the audience and have done absolutely brilliant for themselves in our industry.
But how long will we keep watching the same girls doing the same mundane stuff? As it is the female protagonist in our industry has very less to showcase in our films besides dancing in three songs and looking beautiful and glamorous in the two scenes she has through out the film barring a few films which will have to be exceptions.
Now is the time for young breed of fresh faces to conquer & rule our Punjabi Film Industry and take each of us by storm. We choose few young actresses who have immense potential to make a mark for themselves in this space.
Out of the few the first name that pops up is of Sonam Bajwa. The girl who impressed everyone with her subtle performance in “Punjab 1984”.Despite of having power house performers like Kiron Kher,singer/actor Diljit Dosanjh and Pawan Malhotra in the film she stood to her ground and left a mark for herself. Though she debuted with singer/actor Gippy Garewal in “Best of Luck” which did not fare well at the box office but had producers and directors vouching for her work. She has just shot for a promotional song of “Sardar Ji” with Diljit Dosanjh which also happens to be his next most anticipated release this year.Ms.Bajwa fans are eagerly waiting for her next film announcement. With her Punjabi background and connect she leads the list of the most promising faces of the Punjabi Film Industry.
Second on our list is most definitely Parul Gulati. She debuted as fresh breath of air in punjabi cinema with her movie ” Burraahh ” opposite actor Harish Verma best known as Jatt Tinka. Followed by ” Romeo Ranjha ” which was her second release opposite singer Garry Sandhu which did not do well at the box office but got her allot of appreciation for her role as a con girl she got to play in this film which in punjabi cinema is a rare for a relatively new actor to get.Her third release is going to be” Zorawar ” opposite singer/rapper Yo Yo Honey Singh. This movie has huge expectations & will be a turning point for Ms.Gulati.Looking at her choice of films she has been extremely patient and has chosen films very selectively realising she has longer running as an actor in our industry and not just few films where she is showcased merely as an arm candy.Again hailing from Punjabi family she seems very rooted and focussed to leave a mark in Punjabi cinema.
Third on the list would be a very unusual pick for us as she is yet to showcase her acting capabilities but because she already has three films in her kitty and from the looks of it she definitely seems competent and raring to go with her debut film with super star of Punjabi cinema Diljit Dosanjh titled ” Mukhtair Chaddha”.Followed by ” Shareek ” directed by Navniyat Singh and another one titled “Saka – Nankana Sahib “.Let us give credit where it is well deserved.Oshin Sai,our own desi girl from Amritsar.Hope this one lives up to all the pressure we have built around her even before her debut .
As for us these are the few names we strongly felt would leave an impression as they are young, fresh and very talented punjabi girls who show all the signs to make it big in our Punjabi Film Industry in the coming future.
