Sanjay Leela Bhansali’s Heeramandi Returns for Season 2: A New Journey Begins

In a thrilling announcement for fans of the Netflix series Heeramandi: The Diamond Bazaar, filmmaker Sanjay Leela Bhansali has confirmed the renewal of the period-drama series for a second season. The news comes as a delightful surprise, especially considering Bhansali’s earlier doubts about the possibility of a second season.

Despite initially expressing uncertainty about the feasibility of a second season, stating that “web series like this can happen only once; nobody can make it again, not even me,” Bhansali seems to have had a change of heart. In a recent interview with Variety, he confirmed the renewal of Heeramandi for a second season.

The second season of Heeramandi promises a fresh narrative arc. Bhansali revealed, “In Heeramandi 2, the women now come from Lahore to the film world. They leave Lahore after the partition, and most of them settle in the Mumbai or Kolkata film industries. So that journey in the bazaar remains the same. They still have to dance and sing, but this time for the producers and not for the nawabs.”

Heeramandi: The Diamond Bazaar has been making headlines since its announcement. The series, which premiered on Netflix on May 1, received mixed reviews. While many praised the larger-than-life set that the series had to offer, others criticized the performances of certain actors in the series.

As fans eagerly await the second season, the announcement has sparked excitement and anticipation. With the tawaifs now entering the film industry, viewers can expect a captivating exploration of their journey and struggles in a new world.
