How did a Boy from a simple Punjabi, Farming Background foray into the entertainment world? What was the Journey Like?
I’m from Tharwa Majra, a small village near Karnal. And I come from a typical Jatt Sikh family with farming roots. I finished my primary education in my village and then moved to the city to finish my secondary education. And there my Classmates and friends motivated me to begin my modeling career. And it got so much into my head that I started visiting modeling agencies in Delhi. And after my schooling, I moved to Delhi for my graduation and meanwhile I started working as a model. The whole journey was full of struggles and extremely difficult days. And Back then, we did not even have adequate resources. And after all this hard work, I moved to Bombay to pursue acting and now it’s been almost 8 to 10 years that I’m working as an actor.
You have worked in every field of almost all major languages- be it Modelling, Punjabi, and Hindi Television and Cinema to doing films down south. How is each of them different and which is your favorite field of work?
I absolutely love working everywhere- be it Punjabi cinema, Hindi Cinema or anywhere down south. I think every industry has its own unique qualities. I began my journey in the Hindi Film Industry and after that, I worked extensively in the Malayalam and Telugu Film Industries. And then in 2020, I started working in Punjabi Films. So yes, all in all, I enjoy working everywhere. But I also believe that all these industries are different in their own style of working, cultures, lifestyles and even technicalities. Working in Punjabi Films feels very familiar and it all comes naturally to me, whereas I feel immensely satisfied working in the Telugu industry. However, One major difference that is there is that South Indian Film Industry is super old. And People down south are ardent lovers of cinema. They will watch any and every movie twice and thrice and if you ask them, they will evaluate and analyze each and everything of that movie. That’s how much they love the cinema. That’s why South Indian Producers and Filmmakers invest and experiment so much with their content. Whereas in Punjabi Film Industry, a producer will only invest and experiment if and only after the movie does well at the box office.
What has been the biggest takeaway for you from all these years in the industry?
“Samay se pehle aur kismat se zyada, kabhi bhi kisi ko kuchh nahi milta”. It’s very important to be patient and very positive in life. You just have to keep working hard! Whatever you want, you will definitely get it but you don’t know when, right? You’ll have to have honesty and faith in yourself. Believe in yourself and whatever you do. “Jo aapka hai, vo aapse koi chheen nahi sakta, aur Jo aapka nahi hai uske liye aap kuchh bhi karlein, vo aapka nahi hoga”. Balance and listening to yourself and your God are also important. it’s important to trust whatever’s happening around you. I have literally realised ki “Jo Hota hai achhe ke liye hi hota hai.”
You have even worked in ‘Buddies in India’, a Chinese action-adventure comedy film? How was the overall experience working with Chinese Talent?
It was so much fun and the best and most hilarious part was nobody could understand each other. We didn’t know Chinese and they didn’t understand English. they had only one translator on the set and the crew consisted of more than 300 people. Half part of it was shot in India and I played a very prominent part in it. So, the most enjoyable part was nobody was understanding anybody. We had to use signs and gestures so that was a lot of fun. But they’re such a sincere lot and they were obviously very advanced in terms of technology.
What has been your fitness Mantra for all these years in the Industry?
My Fitness Mantra is not just looking fit, I should feel fit from within. From your soul, your thoughts along with physical fitness. And even my work requires it, We have action scenes and a lot of moving around in our films. I need to be able to do all of that. It is normal for me. See, I get motivated by all the love and support I get from my fans. Whenever I post something related to fitness, I read all the comments and I get even more inspired. Whenever I talk to someone, they definitely talk about fitness. That’s what keeps me going harder. Everyday we work, either I am shooting or doing something else, it takes as long as 10-12 hours, so I think one hour we should keep for our fitness. This should be the necessity. Whatever we eat, How much we sleep. These things are also very important. We work to earn. So I believe our mind and body also deserve our time and energy. It’s an investment. Nothing matters if you’re not healthy, be it physically or mentally.
Please tell us about your current projects and where we might see you in the future.
My recent film was ‘Nishana’ which released in November. And I received a lot of appreciation for it. People texted and called me for the character I played. I am currently shooting one film called ‘Maud’ in Rajasthan. Then 2 of my Telugu movie are coming. They are almost ready to release. One is called ‘Agent’ and the other is called ’22’. And I have recently completed shooting a web series for hotstar. I have worked with Raveena Tandon and other great actors in it. And there’s another Punjabi Film already completed called ‘Mera Baba Nanak’ and another one’s called ‘Nidar’. So these are all the things I’m Doing right now and I am grateful for it all.
What is your dream role?
If people are aware of Punjab History, there was a Commander in chief in Maharaja Ranjit Singh’s army, Hari Singh Nalwa. If I could play him on screen, For me that will be a dream come true. That’s where I’ll feel complete. And I’ve been dreaming a lot about it. I’ve been manifesting it.
