‘Chauthi Koot’ to be screened at Cannes

A Punjabi film set in the days of terrorism, ‘Chauthi Koot’ (The Fourth Direction), is all set to be screened at the international Cannes Film Festival which is going to commence on May 13. Directed by internationally acclaimed director Gurvinder Singh, ‘Chauthi Koot’ is adapted from two short stories written by renowned Punjabi author Waryam Singh Sandhu, ‘Chauthi Koot’ and ‘Main Hun Theek Thak Han’ (I am feeling well now). Gurvinder’s directorial debut ‘Aney Ghore Da Daan’ has been screened at various international film festivals, including the 68th Venice International Film Festival, and bagged the Special Jury Award at the Abu Dhabi Film Festival in 2011.

Speaking to the leading newspaper, Gurvinder said the exact date had not been given to him for screening of the film. He said the film depicted the reality of Punjab during the Sikh separatist movement. It represents the plight of the common man during the militancy in the state. The narrative is about general public, from rural background in particular, who feel stuck and paranoid by both the police and militants. Gurvinder said the film had been jointly produced by the National Film Development Corporation (NFDC), Catherine Dussart in France and a producer from the UK.

He said the official trailer of the film would be released in May, whereas the film would be released worldwide in September.
