The release date of SS Rajamouli’s next big film Varanasi has been officially changed. The film stars Mahesh Babu, Priyanka Chopra, and Prithviraj Sukumaran in lead roles.
Earlier, the film was planned to release in January 2027, but now the makers have decided on a new date. Varanasi will release worldwide in theatres on April 7, 2027.
In Varanasi, Priyanka Chopra will be seen as Mandakini, Mahesh Babu will play Rudhra, and Prithviraj Sukumaran will appear as the villain Kumbha.
The film’s title was officially announced last year in November at a grand GlobeTrotter event held at Ramoji Film City, Hyderabad. During the event, a teaser was also shown on a massive screen.
The teaser gave a glimpse of the film’s grand scale, showing beautiful visuals from different places and time periods like Antarctica, Varanasi, Kenya, and timelines such as 512 CE, 2027 CE, and even Treta Yuga.
At the event, Mahesh Babu thanked his fans and said he was deeply grateful for their love and support. He shared that his father always wanted him to do mythological films and believed they suited his personality. Mahesh said that today, his father would be blessing him from above.
Priyanka Chopra also shared her happiness at being part of such a big Telugu film. She said Telugu cinema is a place where movies are celebrated like festivals, and she felt lucky to work with such legendary filmmakers and actors. She added that she was very happy to be back working in India.
