In an unexpected turn of events, the theatrical release of Wamiqa Gabbi’s much-awaited film Bhool Chuk Maaf has been officially cancelled. The film, which also stars Rajkummar Rao, was slated to hit the big screens on May 9, 2025, but will now premiere directly on Amazon Prime Video on May 16, 2025.

The sudden announcement has left fans surprised and disappointed, especially those eager to watch Wamiqa’s next big-screen performance. The shift, however, comes with a serious reason — public safety.

In an official statement, production house Maddock Films, in collaboration with Amazon MGM Studios, clarified:

“In light of recent events and heightened nationwide security drills, we have decided to take the OTT route.”

Producer Dinesh Vijan added that the move was made keeping “public safety and accessibility” as top priorities.

This change marks a reminder of the pandemic-era strategy when many films were redirected from theatres to digital platforms. While some see this as a one-off, others speculate whether it signals a return to OTT-first trends for high-profile releases.

Directed by Karan SharmaBhool Chuk Maaf features a stellar ensemble including Seema PahwaSanjay MishraRaghubir Yadav, and Zakir Hussain. The film’s music is composed by Tanishk Bagchi, with a background score by Ketan Sodha.

Though fans of Wamiqa Gabbi may feel the sting of missing a theatrical experience, the film’s digital release ensures it will be accessible to a broader audience worldwide — right from the comfort of their homes.

Earlier it was scheduled for 9th May 2025 release in theaters.
