Punjab and Haryana High Court Orders Removal of Barricades at Shambhu Border Within a Week

In a significant ruling, the Punjab and Haryana High Court has directed the Haryana government to remove barricades set up at the Shambhu border near Ambala within a week. The court declared the highway a crucial lifeline and emphasized the need for prompt action.

The barricades were erected in February when farmer groups planned a march to Delhi, demanding a legal guarantee for Minimum Support Price (MSP) on crops. The court’s order ensures that the border is accessible and that law and order are maintained during this critical period.

The court instructed the Haryana government to dismantle the barricades within seven days. Both states have been directed to ensure compliance with the court’s order. The High Court mandated that the Shambhu border be reopened within the specified timeframe. Haryana Additional Advocate General Deepak Sabharwal confirmed the court’s directive, emphasizing the importance of timely action. The Punjab government has also been instructed to remove any barricades on their side.

This ruling reflects the court’s commitment to maintaining peace and facilitating movement while respecting the rights of protesters and citizens. As the week unfolds, all eyes will be on the Shambhu border to see how swiftly the barricades are removed and normalcy restored3
